About us

The department provides four-semester compulsory teaching of professional English for Bachelor degree students of Applied Informatics, Cybersecurity, Information Management, and Economics and Management. In addition, the department delivers six-semester compulsory teaching of professional English to students of Management of Tourism. For Master degree students of Economics and Management, the department runs compulsory courses of business English and Corporate Communication.

Departmental teachers are also actively involved in teaching foreign students, both ERASMUS and self-payers. They offer courses in Czech language, professional English, German language, as well as academic writing. In cooperation with Charles University, the academic staff of the department actively participates in certified exams in Czech language for obtaining Czech citizenship. Since 2016, the department also provides supervision of PhD students, both at home institution and abroad.

The mission of the department is to provide high-quality language education, with a focus on areas essential for business and IT students, such as business English, organizational communication, and intercultural business communication. By doing so, the department ensures that students are well-prepared for the demands of the global business world and can navigate the ever-evolving international environment with confidence.

 

 

James Buchanan White, a member of the Department of Applied Linguistics at the University of Hradec Kralove's Faculty of Informatics and Management (FIM), was selected Teacher of the Year in 2016 at FIM. Additionally, the University of Hradec Kralove recommended him for a Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sports award in 2024. All of this demonstrates how excellent the department's teaching team is.
