Empowering doctoral students: UHK's specialized PhD course guides promising academic careers
The University of Hradec Králové knows that doctoral studies can be very challenging, especially regarding initial orientation. In addition to individual mentoring, we organize a specialized PhD course to guide our students on the right path in their academic careers. First-year doctoral students have a unique opportunity to learn from experienced academic professionals about the range of possibilities and challenges they may encounter during their studies.
This was the third year of a unique course focused on doctoral candidates at the University of Hradec Králové. The course is structured for students from all university faculties and is offered to both full-time and combined students. Currently, UHK offers twenty doctoral-level study programs in Czech and seven programs in English. A total of 16 students participated in the course this year.
"I am returning to the university after years of working outside the scientific sphere, and this way of quickly getting oriented in how things have changed, what works, and what to watch out for has been beneficial to me. It was also great to get to know colleagues from different fields," comments one of the course participants.
The program included information about research support schemes at UHK. Currently, there is an increasing emphasis on the cooperation between science and industry, so information on technology transfer was also part of the workshop series. The program concluded with a workshop on academic career planning and the evaluation of research in the Czech Republic and abroad. Interdisciplinary collaboration also led to important networking opportunities.
The list of speakers and their profiles is available in the summit schedule.
