Faculty of Informatics and Management UHK hosted the Academic Championship in esports
On the second weekend of May 2023, the Faculty of Informatics and Management UHK (FIM UHK) hosted the 3E: Academic Championship in Esports.
On Friday at noon, the adjacent areas of the FIM UHK esports classroom were transformed into several makeshift broadcasting studios from where the fiercely contested university esports league was streamed. A total of 14 Czech universities battled it out in the grand match following two months of intense competition in the form of group-stage matches and playoffs. Viewers were on the edge of their seats, watching the thrilling matches either through the stream or in person on campus.
Friday afternoon was dedicated to the card game Hearthstone, Saturday to Counter-Strike: GO, which saw the four best teams from the entire Czech Republic compete, and finally, the last day featured the game League of Legends.
The entire event was meticulously organized by the Esports Student Association, z.s. (ESA), with unwavering support from FIM UHK and VŠB-TUO. The traveling trophies were generously provided by VŠB-TUO, and prizes were sponsored by Genesis. The faculty team FIM Ducks showcased their skills, reaching the final TOP 4, a testament to their dedication and hard work.
"The mood was excellent throughout the three days, with players often praising UHK and the FIM building, especially for its space, modernity, and cleanliness. However, the greatest admiration was garnered by the still relatively new esports classroom, in which all the matches took place," stated Lubomír "Coola" Mikuš, a member of the ESA implementation team and one of the hosts of the three-day championship.
