International student nominated for the annual Czech National Agency for International Education and Research award
Alexia Klie is a student of the Philosophical Faculty UHK. A couple of weeks ago, she got the award nomination for her contributions to the internationalization of her community. While she still helps with the internationalization of the university as the Partnership Manager of the Erasmus Student Network Hradec Králové (ESN HK), she’s also the president of Rotaract Club Hradec Králové, and she is working for an international company as a Director of Customer Success.
Alexia has moved to the Czech Republic from her home city, São Paulo, Brazil, to study a full-time programme – Political Science, which she successfully completed. At this moment, she continues in the Central European Studies master’s degree programme, which is also taught at the Philosophical Faculty UHK. Being a part of the ESN HK for a long time (as a Social Erasmus Coordinator and a Local Representative), she decided to get involved even more as a Partnership Manager of this student organization.
Her story continues with two consecutive mandates as the president of Rotaract Club Hradec Králové, an organization that brings together active young people who focus on charitable, cultural, and environmental projects. In addition, she supplements her tireless non-profit work with a position at an international IT and data security company.
What was your original motivation to come to study in the Czech Republic? Do you still maintain this motivation, or have other driving forces now?
"My intial motivation was to expand my horizons, to learn different cultures and put in practice my International Relations background. Today, I see myself as a global citizen thanks to my experience in the Czech Republic. My driving forces to continue my journey in this country and university are my friends, the relationships and career that I’m building here."
What was your reaction when you learned about your nomination?
"I was honoured to have been nominated. It’s very easy to get caught up on all the different projects that we do on the day-to-day. It was a great chance to look back at everything I accomplished in my community and be proud of it. There’s so much more I want to do still, so I’ll continue to give back to the community and I hope that this nomination will open doors to new projects!"
In the end, the Czech National Agency for International Education and Research decided to give the 2022 award for international students to Pavel Rubtsou, a Belarusian student from the Prague University of Economics and Business. Nonetheless, Alexia’s alma mater is proud to have such an exceptional student to represent our institution and motivate others to excel.
