"Internationalization and foreign relations remain a priority for the University of Hradec Králové even in this challenging period," says Vice-Rector Leona Stašová after the visit of the German Ambassador.
The University of Hradec Králové (UHK) is in the midst of the exam period, the state final exams are slowly coming to an end and Na Soutoku campus is preparing for a summer break, but before the holidays, the campus had the opportunity to welcome a rare visitor. Representatives of the UHK received the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in the Czech Republic, Christoph Israng.
"We are very pleased with the Ambassador's interest in visiting the UHK despite his busy schedule and it confirms that the internationalization of studies and creative activities at our University remains a priority despite the difficult times. I am very pleased that the German side, represented by Ambassador Israng, is a strong partner in this," said after the meeting Leona Stašová, Vice-Rector for International Relations of the University of Hradec Králové, who together with the Vice-Dean for the same area at the Faculty of Education of the University of Hradec Králové (PdF UHK) received the ambassador and his entourage.
"I perceive the meeting with the Ambassador as a very significant and symbolic confirmation of interest in strengthening and developing Czech-German relations. We presented the internationalization activities related to teacher education and other study programs. We focused not only on the teaching of German in Czech schools, the teaching of Czech in Germany but also on the offer of studies accredited in English," added Daniela Vrabcová, Vice-Dean for International Relations of the Faculty of Education.
The most important cooperation between the UHK and the institutions of the Federal Republic of Germany has been carried out thanks to the activities of the Department of German Language and Literature of the PdF UHK that summarizes the head of the department Jana Ondráková: "Mr. Ambassador was pleasantly surprised by the activities of the Department, starting with the teaching of disciplinary and non-disciplinary studies and ending with the teaching of the German language within the University of the Third Age. In his opinion, the number of German companies operating in the Czech Republic is increasing and they are particularly interested in employees who speak German. He was pleased that we are cooperating not only with a number of German universities but also with universities and institutions in Bohemia and Moravia. He was also interested in online teaching for international students and in teaching Czech with intermediate German. As soon as the anti-epidemic measures are over and the situation in the country eases, he would be happy to meet our students at the German Embassy in Prague."
The Federal Republic of Germany is indeed an important partner of the University of Hradec Králové, for example, cooperation within the Erasmus+ program has been established with 25 German universities. "In general, Germany is a very popular destination for our exchange students. In the previous period, it was even one of the five most frequent destinations of our students within the study abroad experience," concludes Vice-Rector Stašová.
