The ARTEMIS application and its creator, Dominik Resl, are garnering awards both domestically and internationally

ARTEMIS is a web application designed for incoming international students (not only) at UHK. Last year, it received the ESN CZ award, and this year, it made a significant impact at the DZS Awards and notably also won the international ESN Award, competing against 270 projects from 45 countries! Our student, Dominik Resl, developed the application.
Dominik studies Data Science at the Faculty of Informatics and Management UHK and worked on the project in his free time as part of his involvement in ESN Hradec Králové. 
"The feedback during the app testing was crucial for me. My colleagues at ESN understand the students' needs well, which was key for managing and structuring the data in the application. The official launch took place at the beginning of 2023, and we resolved the last deficiencies over the summer. Now, I am delighted that the application is being used by more than a thousand users from several Czech universities, significantly easing their lives," says Dominik about the development of ARTEMIS.
ESN Hradec Králové is a non-profit volunteer student organization that cares for international students, their socialization in a new environment, and orientation in the city. Dominik has already completed a bachelor's degree program focused on IT at UHK and applied his skills at ESN HK, where he currently holds the position of IT Responsible When ESN HK needed a new system for managing international students and local volunteers at UHK, Dominik enthusiastically took on the task. In less than three months, he had programmed a functional first version of the application, which he named ARTEMIS.
The application enables not only the registration of international students before their arrival but also the management and modification of events and activities, detailed statistics tracking, connecting students with their 'buddies,' mass emailing, and other valuable features.
"Artemis has been a great help within our ESN section. Thanks to this system, we have achieved a clearer record of our members and, most importantly, simplified communication with Erasmus students. A convenient feature, especially appreciated by the Event Manager, is event management. The whole system is English-friendly, clear, and color-coded. I greatly value the guide/documentation available within the established account," praises the application, HR Manager ESN Pardubice, Sabina Šedivá.
The Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sports established the contributory organization Czech National Agency for International Education and Research (Czech: Dům zahraniční spolupráce = DZS) to facilitate international cooperation in education. Internationalization is also one of the fundamental pillars of the University of Hradec Králové. In previous years, our international students María from Venezuela and, most recently, Alexia from Brazil shone at the DZS Awards. This year, DZS awarded Dominik Resl in the category of Digitalization.
ESN Awards were presented at the largest international student conference, the Erasmus Generation Meeting, in Seville, Spain, attended by more than 1600 active young people. In a total of 14 categories, including awards for cultural contribution, cooperation, education, or environmental sustainability, the only winning project from the Czech Republic—the ARTEMIS application from ESN Hradec Králové—won in the IT category.
"It's an incredible success not just for Dominik and Hradec Králové but also for the entire ESN CZ network! I was involved in writing the competition application; the criteria were strict, and the competition was strong. The fact that ARTEMIS managed to win among 270 projects is amazing both for the authors of the application and naturally for its users. We have confirmation that it is meaningful, and we will continue with it," comments the newly elected President of ESN CZ, Veronika Plchová.
ARTEMIS has already proven its significance and usefulness for international students and volunteers at several universities in the Czech Republic. With its ability to simplify registration and orientation of students in their new academic environment, it has become an indispensable tool for facilitating international cooperation and integration. With continued support and development, the ARTEMIS application can serve an even larger number of users and contribute to further expanding the internationalization of education in the Czech Republic and Europe.
