UHK Summer Schools Attract Students from Across the Globe

Participants engaged in language courses, expert seminars, and creative workshops. The program also included excursions exploring Czech culture, history, and nature. These programs combined academic development with international cooperation and, as the students' testimonies say, unforgettable experiences.

90 Hours of Czech for Students from Hong Kong and Taiwan

This year’s edition of the Art and Czech Summer School 2024 took place at the Faculty of Education UHK, from July 15 to August 12, 2024. This unique program, focused on Czech language, culture, and art, welcomed 21 students from partner universities in Taiwan and Hong Kong.

During their month-long stay, participants completed a total of 90 hours of Czech language instruction, learning the basics of this challenging but fascinating language. The program also included courses in Czech culture and music, providing students with insight into Czech traditions and artistic heritage. Creative workshops offered a variety of activities, including graphic techniques, animation, outdoor drawing, hat-making, and the basics of art therapy.

In addition to the educational part, the summer school gave students the chance to discover the beauty of the Czech Republic and neighboring European countries. They visited historical landmarks, tasted Czech cuisine, and enjoyed leisure time with Czech students. For many, highlights included creating their own hat or applying animation techniques in practice.

Courses like Applied Game Theory or Exploring AI in Education – at Czech IT Out Summer School

From July 6 to August 6, 2024, the Czech IT Out Summer School 2024 took place at the Faculty of Informatics and Management UHK. It welcomed 42 participants from around the world.

I always look forward to meeting new international students. This year, we hosted students from Taiwan, Hong Kong, South Korea, Thailand, Poland, Britain, and France. Over the four weeks, they joined a variety of trips and courses—from cultural studies, logistics, and marketing to data science. Czech language was also part of the program, diligently studied under the guidance of Assoc. Prof. Černá,” said Prof. Blanka Klímová.

Participants could study Czech, English, or French and choose from other subjects such as Applied Game Theory, Fundamentals of Marketing, or Exploring AI in Education. Their explorations included not only Hradec Králové but also a farm in Osice, Bohemia Crystal in Poděbrady, Rakytník Cvrček, and trips to Prachov Rocks and Kutná Hora.

Natural Sciences Summer School Focused on Biology, Cybernetics, and Toxicology

The summer school at the Faculty of Science UHK was held from July 10 to August 10, 2024, and focused on three specialized fields: applied biology, cybernetic systems, and toxicology. The programs offered a comprehensive approach, combining theoretical foundations with intensive practical seminars, allowing students to dive deep into their chosen disciplines.

Alongside their academic work, students also took part in excursions around the Czech Republic, which offered insights into local culture and history. These trips, led by experienced student guides, included visits to significant cultural and natural sites, giving all participants a chance to experience the country beyond the classroom.

Building on the success of this year’s programs, the University of Hradec Králové is already preparing new editions of its summer schools for 2025. The continuing interest from international participants is both encouraging and inspiring, reaffirming our commitment to providing high-quality education and intercultural experiences—not only during the academic year but also throughout the summer months.
