Butyrylcholinesterase reactivators for preparation of pseudo-catalytic scavengers applicable for organophosphorus intoxications
Faculty of Science UHK
Project Description
Organophosphorus compounds are produced as chemical warfare agents, they are used as
insecticides causing life-endangering intoxications. The aim of the concept of a pseudo-catalytic bioscavenger is to prevent such intoxication. These bioscavengers could bind an organophosphorus compound, then detoxify it and reactivate their own bioscavenging activity. The human butyrylcholinesterase is now available as a bioscavenger produced through purification by affinity chromatography with a specific sorbent. However, in the case of the pseudo-catalytic concept, an insufficient amount of small molecules (butyrylcholinesterase reactivators) which could reactivate the butyrylcholinesterase bioscavenging function after detoxifying the organophosphorus compound is available. Thus, our project is focused on the further development of the concept of the pseudo-catalytic bioscavenger, using human butyrylcholinesterase and its reactivators.
