About Us
The Department of Czech Language and Literature provides Bachelor’s, Master’s and doctoral study programmes.
The Bachelor's degree programmes include Czech Language and Literature Focused on Education (full-time study) and Language and Literary Culture (full-time and combined study).
From the Master's study programmes, the department provides three teacher training fields: Teacher Training for the 2nd Stage of the Primary Schools - Czech Language and Literature (five-year full-time study), Teacher Training for the 2nd Stage of the Primary Schools - Czech Language and Literature (two-year follow-up study) and Teacher Training for the Secondary Schools - Czech language and literature (two-year follow-up study).
Doctoral studies are offered by the department in the field of Theory and History of Czech Literature.
The staff of the department develops professional and scientific activities in the field of language and literary research.
Linguists deal mainly with the issues of contemporary linguistics and communication theories (J. Bílková, J. Zeman), historical grammar and Old Church Slavonic (L. Zábranský), Slavic languages (K. Dufková) and Czech for foreigners (Ž. Göbelová).
Literary scientific research focuses on the issues of memory, family memory and gender (A. Zachová, M. Filipowicz, M. Čuřín), reading literacy (P. Bubeníčková, M. Čuřín, A. Zachová), literature for children and youth, and bibliotherapy (P. Bubeníčková), psychological prose and Italian motifs in the Czech literature (N. Mlsová), creative writing (N. Mlsová), poetry and literature of the 20th century (V. Křivánek).
In cooperation with the Czech Language Institute of the Czech Academy of Sciences, the department publishes a peer-reviewed journal Korpus-gramatika-axiologie (Corpus-Grammar-Axiology).
The Department of Czech Language and Literature regularly organizes lectures of prominent personalities within the Linguistic Association and the Literary Scientific Society for the professional and general public.
It cooperates with the Study and Research Library in Hradec Králové (Literary Workshops), with the Czech Radio in Hradec Králové, and with the Library of the City of Hradec Králové and develops projects to support reading.
KČJL further develops cooperation with foreign universities in Poland, Germany, Bulgaria and Slovakia.
