About Us
The Department of Pedagogy and Psychology participates in the formation of pedagogical and psychological capability of students of the teaching study fields for the 2nd stage of the primary schools, teaching study fields for the secondary schools and selected non-teaching fields (e.g. Social Work, Charity, Transcultural Communication, Textile Creation and Folk Crafts). The aim of the educational activity of the department is to provide students with pedagogical-psychological knowledge and skills necessary for the performance of pedagogical professions and other professions that require pedagogical-psychological qualification. The department also plays a methodological role in the organization and coordination of teaching practice.
The first independent field of study of the department – Teacher of Practical Training, which provides already practicing teachers in the field of the professional and vocational schools with the required professional pedagogical-psychological qualification, was established in 2005. The Bachelor’s studies are offered in a combined form.
In 2012, the teacher training field of study for the primary schools – Ethical Education was accredited, and its approbation is for now unique in the Czech Republic. Its Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes are open to full-time students.
In the field of the lifelong learning, the department offers courses accredited by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports. It is about the educational programme Educational Counselling and complementary pedagogical studies in the programmes of Vocational and Practical Training Teacher, Educator and Leisure Time Teacher and Secondary School Teacher.
The department includes the Division of Education and the Division of Psychology. The initiative of the department staff gave rise to other associated centres. The Room of Ethical Education works within the department in this way and the department‘s members are also involved in the activities of the Information, Counselling and Career Centre of UHK.
