About Us

The Department of Physical Education and Sports provides professional and methodological training for future teachers of the 2^nd stage of the primary schools and of the secondary schools in the Bachelor's, Master's and follow-up Master's courses. A physical education division for the 1^st stage of the primary schools and kindergartens, which provides physical education subjects, is a part of the department.

Students complete both theoretical and practical courses during the Bachelor's studies. It is mainly about Kinanthropology, Anthropomotorics, History of Physical Culture, Biomechanics, Sports Training, Wellness and Fitness and Psychology of Physical Education and Sports from the theory of physical education and sports. And about Anatomy, Physiology, Kinesiology, Traumatology from the biomedical field. Practical disciplines are mainly focused on teaching athletics, gymnastics, games, swimming, courses in sports and outdoor activities, atypical games and other sports and physical activities.

The follow-up Master's courses are primarily focused on the theory and didactics of individual sports and disciplines and on the theory of other subjects in the field of Kinanthropology. The professional activities of the department and cooperation with other faculties or departments are mainly focused on the problems of movement and physical load.

Every year the department organizes, the Sport Academy, workshops and seminars, within the framework of the EDU Days, where successful students of the department present themselves.

The department provides selective sports and physical activities for students of the other faculties of the University of Hradec Králové and offers a number of optional theoretical subjects related to a healthy lifestyle and health education.

Students of the department regularly represent the University of Hradec Králové at Czech Academic Games, Academic Championships of the Czech Republic and at other sports competitions, where they earn medals in both individual and team sports, all with the support of the University Sports Club Hradec Králové, z.s. The University Sports Club Hradec Králové, z.s. is also a part of sports life of the university.

The Accreditation Centre (AKRES) works at the department as a regional centre for the professional education of the public and students of the University of Hradec Králové in physical education and licensing programmes.
