About Us
The main mission of the Department of Music is to prepare teachers of music education for primary and secondary schools and teachers of instrumental play (in specialization of piano, organ, violin) and solo singing for primary art schools.
The scientific work of the department focuses mainly on the history of music of the 17th and 18th centuries and didactic issues of the integration concept of music education. In the artistic field, apart from the solo concert activities of the department’s members, a very extensive and successful choirmaster activity dominates. The department’s teachers regularly present themselves at the world's prominent festivals abroad.
The department also pays great attention to the students' professional activities. The Department of Music organizes regular student concerts, offers students the opportunity to actively participate in the choir and in the chamber orchestra. Foreign students are also welcome in the choir and chamber orchestra during their study stay at UHK.
At the international level, the Department of Music develops pedagogical cooperation with universities in Poland, Slovakia, the USA and Taiwan, in particular through exchange student mobility for studies. You can study single-subject Bachelor’s study programmes "Solo Singing Focused on Education" and "Playing a Musical Instrument Focused on Education", followed by a Master's study program "Teaching at Basic Art Schools - Playing a Musical Instrument and Solo Singing" at the Department of Music.
