The smart hospital bed by scientists from the University of Hradec Králové has won an award from the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic
On October 20, 2022, the project Intelligent Medical Bed for Patients in Critical Condition by scientists from the Faculty of Science of the University of Hradec Králové received an award from the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic in the Business category. They collaborated on the project together with the Czech company Linet.
The bed monitors the patient's condition using sensors and can detect the risk of bedsores in time. Then it can also propose preventive measures, which (in some cases) can be implemented by the bed itself.
"The unique software and algorithm we have developed make it easier for nurses to care for patients. Their work can be challenging precisely in cases such as the covid-19 pandemic when hospital wards were heavily overloaded," explains Filip Studnička, the solution manager of the winning project, adding that the bed also helps in practice. Its movement makes it easier for nurses to manipulate when positioning patients.
"This award is very important for us also in the context of the fact that we are a young faculty compared to others. Nevertheless, we managed to find the right direction for our faculty represented by applied research, which we will continue to develop," concludes Jan Kříž, dean of the Faculty of Science of the UHK.
This year, the Technology Agency of the Czech Republic announced the awards for the tenth time. Out of 36 finalists, the Agency always choses one winner in the categories of Business, Partnership, Governance and Society.
