Discoveries and Connections: Highlights from the STDE 2024 Conference

From November 4 to 7, 2024, the Faculty of Science University of Hradec Králové hosted the international conference Spectral Theory and Differential Equations (STDE 2024), focusing on the intersection of spectral theory and differential equations. The event attracted 27 participants from 10 countries and was dedicated to the memory of prof. Miloslav Havlíček (1938–2024), a prominent Czech mathematician and physicist.

The conference provided a platform to present and discuss the latest developments in spectral theory and differential equations. Key topics included spectral and scattering theory for differential operators, asymptotic analysis, homogenization, and the study of operators on structures resembling graphs and waveguides. These areas are integral to the ongoing research at the Department of Physics of the Faculty of Science UHK. Dr. Andrii Khrabustovskyi, Assoc. Prof. Jiří Lipovský, Dr. Marzieh Baradaran, and Assoc. Prof. Jan Kříž significantly contributed to the organization and academic success of the event on behalf of the department.

The program featured 25 expert presentations, including 10 plenary talks delivered by leading international researchers. Highlights included Pavel Exner’s lecture on Schrödinger operators with channel-type potentials, Ram Band’s presentation on the "Dry Ten Martini Problem" for Sturmian Schrödinger operators, and Grigori Panasenko’s talk on partial dimension reduction in networks of thin vessels.

A special segment of the conference was dedicated to honoring the legacy of prof. Miloslav Havlíček. Pavel Exner delivered a commemorative lecture, reflecting on prof. Havlíček’s significant contributions to science, his impact on the academic community, and his enduring inspiration for future generations of researchers.

The conference offered a unique opportunity for experts from various parts of the world, including representatives from prestigious institutions in the USA, Sweden, Germany, and Slovenia, to exchange knowledge and establish international collaborations. This event also continued the tradition of hosting high-profile scientific conferences at the University of Hradec Králové, such as QMath 2010 and "Chaos, and what it can reveal" in 2017.

Further details and the complete program are available on the official conference website.
