Dr. Bušovský Receives the Mayor’s Award for Student Creative Work

This year, the prestigious Mayor’s Award for Student Creative Work was granted to two exceptional young researchers. We are proud to announce that one of the laureates is RNDr. Damián Bušovský, Ph.D., from the Department of Physics at the Faculty of Science, University of Hradec Králové.

Dr. Bušovský earned this recognition for his doctoral dissertation on ballistocardiography and its role in tertiary education, in which he compellingly combined physics, medicine, and didactics. His research pushes the boundaries of traditional instruction toward interdisciplinary approaches that meet the evolving needs of higher education.

His dissertation yielded innovative teaching modules and novel monitoring systems, which have proven valuable not only in academic settings but also in real-world applications—particularly in elder care and neonatal vital signs monitoring. Dr. Bušovský was directly involved in the development, software and hardware implementation, and deployment of these systems, which now play a role in enhancing the quality of life for vulnerable populations.

The results of his research have been published in peer-reviewed journals, including a top-tier (T5) publication, and also led to a European patent for a fetal movement monitoring device. In addition to his scientific achievements, Dr. Bušovský is deeply engaged in improving university education and promoting science to the broader public.

His outstanding academic track record includes graduating with distinction at both the bachelor’s and master’s levels and receiving multiple Dean’s and Rector’s awards. The Mayor’s Award marks yet another milestone in his remarkable career.
