Greening the UHK Campus
Václav Havel Square, located at the heart of the campus Na Soutoku, is renowned for its splendid fountain and grassy areas that offer space for sitting and relaxation. However, during the warm months, there is also the challenge of keeping these areas comfortable for everyone due to the excessive heat from insufficient shading. To improve the microclimate of the square and provide a refuge from the hot summer days, we have decided to plant new trees.
We are proud to announce that today's planned tree planting at Václav Havel Square has been successfully completed. This milestone is a significant step towards providing cooling shade and enhancing the microclimate in the center of our campus. In the spirit of sustainability and collaboration, dendrology students, faculty staff, and other volunteers, led by an experienced gardener, united their efforts to plant new trees that will form the foundation for a greener and more welcoming environment.
Supported by the Sázej stromy.cz Program of the Nadace O2, the project not only brings a much-desired green refuge for our community but also enhances the biodiversity and aesthetic value of the area. The trees are now accompanied by an informational plaque with a QR code, offering an interactive way to learn more about each one.
This initiative reflects our commitment to the environment and our desire to create a harmonious space for all who visit the campus.
We thank everyone who contributed their work and support, and we look forward to seeing how the square transforms with the growth of the newly planted trees.
