SmartVet from Faculty of Science UHK: Third Place in the "Be Inspired" Competition
The University of Hradec Králové has achieved notable success in the “Be Inspired” competition, hosted by the Center for Investment, Development, and Innovation (CIRI) and its Regional Permanent Conference. This competition serves as a platform to recognize exceptional projects that contribute to innovation development in the Hradec Králové region.
In the category "Inspirational Collaboration between Research and Business Sectors," the Faculty of Science at UHK excelled with the SmartVet project, which impressed the jury enough to award it third place. The research team developed an innovative monitoring system for veterinary clinic patients.
SmartVet represents a groundbreaking approach to animal care. The project involves a mat equipped with integrated sensors, placed in the resting area of the animal (kennel, cage, or bed). This mat continuously collects and transmits data on vital functions such as heart and breathing rates, along with information about the animal’s physical activity, aiding in better monitoring and care of patients post-surgery or other procedures.
The application of this system has vast potential, not only in terms of improving animal care but also in reducing the stress caused by direct human interaction during sensitive recovery periods.
Dr. Richard Cimler, a leading member of the research team, expresses his enthusiasm for the project: "Our passion for using modern technology to improve human lives is now extended to veterinary care. In collaboration with veterinary experts, we have developed a system that allows veterinary clinics to perform remote monitoring of animals. The main goal of this system is to ensure minimal stress and maximum comfort for the animals."
The success of the SmartVet project highlights the strong link between academic research and practical application, demonstrating that the University of Hradec Králové not only advocates for the translation of theory into practice in words but also in deeds.
