Young Scientists at the Faculty of Science UHK: Preparing for the Prestigious EOES Olympiad

The Faculty of Science at the University of Hradec Králové recently hosted a four-day training camp for fifteen exceptionally talented high school students excelling in the natural sciences—biology, physics, and chemistry.

The participants were selected based on their outstanding achievements in subject-specific olympiads. During the intensive program, they gained in-depth insights into the European Olympiad of Experimental Science (EOES), a highly competitive international event.

The primary goal of the training camp was not only to deepen the students’ expertise and refine their experimental skills but also to select two three-member teams that will represent the Czech Republic in this year’s EOES, set to take place in Croatia.

The rigorous academic program was led by experienced lecturers: chemist Prof. RNDr. Jan Kotek, Ph.D. (Faculty of Science, Charles University), biologist Prof. RNDr. Jan Černý, Ph.D. (Faculty of Science, Charles University), and physicist Assoc. Prof. RNDr. Jan Kříž, Ph.D. (Faculty of Science, University of Hradec Králové).

Throughout the program, students tackled three demanding experimental challenges that tested not only their theoretical knowledge but also their ability to apply practical laboratory problem-solving skills. Beyond scientific preparation, great emphasis was placed on teamwork and fostering connections among the participants. In their free time, students engaged in social games and informal activities, further strengthening their team spirit.

We extend our congratulations to the successful finalists and wish them the best of luck in the international competition this May!
