Subjects Didactics Centre

Subject didactics are a cornerstone of future teachers´ training. The importance of a subject didactics corresponds to the field of education: the more abstract the field of education the greater importance of a subject didactics. At the same time, a great degree of abstraction is typical for future teachers´ education provided by the Faculty of Science UHK, i.e. for teaching physics, chemistry, biology, computer science and mathematics.

Professional training for future science, mathematics and computer science teachers can be ensured and realised only through high-quality teaching of subject didactics. Therefore, the Faculty of Science UHK established the Subject Didactics Centre (COD).

 

The main tasks of COD include:

  • development of subject didactics as scientific disciplines at all departments of the Faculty of Science UHK,
  • coordination of the didactic part of teacher training within the Faculty of Science UHK,
  • discussions and suggestions connected with other integral parts of teacher training at FoS UHK and at UHK as whole,
  • coordination of pedagogical internships provided by FoS UHK for our own students as well as for students of the Faculty of Education and Philosophical Faculty who study different fields of ​​education guaranteed by FoS within combined study programs, or for students of teacher training programs studied at the Faculty of Education whose specializations are provided by the Faculty of Science (biology, physics, chemistry, informatics, mathematics),
  • analysis of interdisciplinary relationships between individual subject didactics of science, mathematics and computer science,
  • didactic analysis and didactic transformation of new curriculum that appears in sciences as the result of human knowledge progress.

 

Working with gifted and talented students

COD didactically and organizationally supports competitions aimed at the development of talented primary school pupils and secondary school students (Science Olympiads). At the regional level we provide rooms for organizing Biology or Chemistry Olympiads, we also organise seminars for solvers of the Mathematical Olympiad. At the national and international levels we organise the Physics Olympiad, the International Physics Olympiad and the physics part the European Union Science Olympiad (EUSO), for which the Department of Physics of the Faculty of Science UHK also organises camps.

 

Centre members

  • are members of SPA (Students` Professional Activities)  commissions,
  • cooperate with FURTHER EDUCATION AND LIFELONG LEARNING centers,
  • organise seminars for FURTHER EDUCATION AND LIFELONG LEARNING for teachers as well as conferences for teachers,
  • are members of subject olympiad commissions,
  • cooperate with region institutions and institutions with scientific focus (eco-centers, museums, NP or PLA administrations, ZOOs).
