The University of Hradec Králové Improves Conditions for PhD Students
The University of Hradec Králové has long been committed to developing services and support for PhD students to create an environment that facilitates their studies, teaching, and research activities. The newly established UHK Doctoral School is becoming a space for sharing experiences, knowledge, and collaboration among students, researchers, and scientists across all faculties.
The first event to kick off this initiative was an informal gathering called the PhD Students' Coffee Break. Participants had the opportunity to take part in an academic quiz, discuss their topics in a lean coffee meeting format, and learn about funding opportunities for research. The event also provided space for informal networking, all within a friendly atmosphere and with refreshments.
"I am very pleased that, as a university, we have started focusing on improving conditions and facilities for our PhD students. Our goal within the emerging Doctoral School is to foster connections among PhD students across disciplines, enhance awareness of educational and funding opportunities, and, most importantly, make it easier to share experiences, knowledge, successes, and challenges that come with PhD life. I truly appreciate the support of the university leadership in bringing this initiative to life," said Doctoral School Coordinator Ing. Martina Janečková. She also mentioned that the university is working on other activities, such as introducing a communication platform and expanding the range of courses and workshops, not only for PhD students but also for their supervisors.
The university plans to continue improving the environment for this target group. Thanks to their feedback and inspiration drawn from collaborations with other higher education institutions, the Doctoral School is becoming an important tool for developing PhD studies and the academic environment at the university as a whole.
