Biology and Ecology

  • Type: Undergraduate
  • Form: Full-time
  • Duration: 3 years
  • Language: English

Program Description

This bachelor study focused on biological and ecological sciences is the basis for continuation of the follow-up master study of the degree program Biology and Ecology. Therefore, it is necessary that during the course of bachelor study students acquire sufficiently deep theoretical knowledge and practical skills that they will be able to extend and build on in the future. The main goal of the field is to develop the ability of students to penetrate the substance of the subject matter, to study the new substance independently, and to transmit the acquired knowledge comprehensively to others. Subjects in each semester cover areas related to molecular and cell biology, botany, zoology and ecology, as well as fundamentals of chemistry, mathematics and physics. Legislation in nature conservation, biotechnology and methodological biological disciplines is an important part of the study. The study contains a lot of practical and field exercises so that students not only gain theoretical but also practical knowledge and skills. The study is completed with a bachelor exam in biology and ecology and defense of a bachelor thesis of a scientific and research character.

Previous Education/Experience

A prerequisite is graduation from a secondary school, preferably a grammar school or a secondary school with biological aim.

Career Opportunities

A graduate of this field will be able to develop acquired theoretical knowledge and practical skills and use them in practice. It is especially useful in continuing with a master's degree program or possibly in a doctoral degree program. The graduate can use the acquired knowledge and skills even if he/she decides to finish his/her studies at a bachelor's degree, either as a worker in regional administration, nature conservation, or as a specialist in natural resources and ecology in the private sector.

Study Opportunities

Biology and Ecology, Spec. Plant Biology, Animal Biology, Experimental Biology

Admission Requirements

Applicants will write a test from the knowledge of secondary school (grammar school) biology.

Sample tests including solutions from the previous years can be found here.
