The main mission of the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Hradec Kralove is to provide higher education and scientific activities in areas belonging to the traditional focus of faculties of the philosophical orientation, such as archaeology, archival science, philosophy, history, political science and sociology. In addition, it develops studies and research that make it an original and sought-after school. The Department of Social Work has been part of the FF UHK since the 2017/2018 academic year.

Unique specialization

The Philosophical Faculty provides specializations in Latin America and Africa and the application of digital technologies in Humanities. Currently, about 1,200 Bachelor’s, Master’s and doctoral candidates study at the Philosophical Faculty.

In addition to its own study programmes, the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Hradec Králové provides for the Faculty of Education of the University of Hradec Králové study programmes focused on History, Civics, and Science teachers, which are studied by several hundred other students.

Respected scientific results

The Faculty has built its reputation by providing equality education in an open and friendly environment, and respected scientific results. Its wide range of activities and the quality of its results make the Philosophical Faculty an original and sought-after university, and a partner of many domestic and foreign institutions.

Research at the Faculty takes place primarily in the framework of grant projects, financed by the Grant Agency of the Czech Republic, or Specific Research Projects, in which talented Master’s and doctoral students of the FF UHK participate. The Faculty also draws on many resources from the EU Structural Funds, specially from the European Social Fund, for the development of the faculty infrastructure. Research at the faculty takes place primarily in the framework of grant projects of the Grant Agency of the Czech Republic or the Specific Research Projects in which talented Master’s and doctoral students of the FF UHK participate. In addition to strictly scientific grants, the Faculty successfully draws many resources from the EU Structural Funds, in particular from the European Social Fund for the development of the faculty infrastructure. Also, thanks to the possibility awarding the title of Senior Lecturer and Professor in the field of the Czech and Czechoslovak history, the scientific ambitions are successfully fulfilled.

Internships cooperation

The Faculty pays increasingly more attention to internships. The whole Faculty has partnerships with several public, state, and private institutions. This includes public and local authorities, scientific institutions, primary and secondary schools, private companies, and foundations. Moreover, the cooperation between the “buyer sphere” and the FF UHK is strengthened because the Faculty Committee for Internships Cooperation is an advisory body for the Dean.

The ever-growing range of courses of in-service training has become one of the reasons why our Faculty has been into the public eye. In fact, in cooperation with other public institutions, our faculty (co-)organizes various educational events for the public. In fact, scholars and students of our faculty participate in many other interesting activities, such as the operation of the Všestary Archaeological Park, which is an unusual open-air museum of a prehistoric village and a unique prehistoric museum.

Mobilities Abroad

An unforgettable area of interest of the faculty is the development of the international mobility of students and teachers and relations with partner institutions abroad. The students and the faculty staff take regular mobilities for traineeships and placements abroad in European Union countries (e.g. Spain, Portugal, Italy, Estonia, France, Norway, Great Britain, Austria, Germany, Turkey, etc.). And if Europe is not enough, they can study or take a traineeship, and be placed abroad in non-European destinations, in North America, Latin America (e.g. Peru, Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Colombia) or Africa (e.g. Ghana, Kenya).

The relative youth of our Faculty allows great openness and flexibility in fulfilling educational, scientific, and other no less important functions and roles in the regional and nationwide framework.
