About the study programme

The Philosophical Faculty of the University of Hradec Králové offers M.A. degree which may be pursued in full-time study. M.A. programme is designed for students who have obtained a bachelor´s degree. The study is designed as a multidisciplinar overview of humanities and social sciences in which Central Europe is characterized in a broad context.

Study contents

  • Inter-disciplinary studies within the scope of humanities and social sciences
  • Central Europe is comprehended and studied in a broader, especially historical-political and socio-economic context
  • Courses of Czech, Polish and German are offered as a part of the studies

A graduate of the Central European Studies study field will obtain detailed knowledge of Central European realia, particularly in the area of the modern history, politics, culture, society, and economy of Middle Europe.

The graduates will be provided with the ability to analyze the current social, economic and political events in this region as well as in the individual mid-European countries.

 

How to apply?

By filling in the electronic application with attachments. Obligatory attachments include:

  • Bachelor´s Degree certificate – if the applicant has not completed the Bachelor´s Degree prior to the application date, he/she has to submit the study confirmation. The certificate must be submitted by 30th June. More about the recognition of certificates and diplomas here.
  • Personal statement – explaining why the applicant wants to study the Central European Studies field at the Philosophical Faculty of the UHK.
  • Proposal of a Master thesis – especially the topic, the definition of contents, theoretical frame, objectives, methods of elaboration, and the list of related literature on the given topic. The topic can be revised after the commencement of the studies in cooperation with the dissertation supervisor or possibly redefined if not in accordance with the study focus.
  • Confirmation of the language competence to study in the English language (e.g. university examination, internationally valid certificate).

 

Deadline for application: 

  • March 31, 2024 for start in Winter Term (start of studies in September 2024) or for start in Summer Term (start of studies in February 2025)
  • The latest deadline for sending completed attachments missing from the application form is 30 April 2024. If the applicant fails to complete the attachments by the deadline, he/she will not be admitted to the study. The Dean may grant an exception to the deadline in justified cases only.

Admission Requirements

To be admitted, applicants must meet the following minimum criteria: they must demonstrate sufficient knowledge of the English language, motivation to study and readiness for social science studies at the Master's level.

 

The entrance examination is scored. A maximum of 50 points can be obtained from the assessment of the motivation letter, and a maximum of 50 points can be obtained from the thesis proposal. An applicant passes the entrance examination if he/she obtains at least 50% of 100 points in both parts of the entrance examination.

 

If the applicant fails to submit the necessary documents of previous education no later than on the day of the admission examination, and, at the same time, the applicant fulfils the other necessary conditions for admission to the study programme in question, verification of the conditions for admission will take place only after the relevant document of previous education is submitted.
The latest date for receipt of proof of prior education is 18 October 2024
